The historic Russell House in Boothbay Harbor has been many things over the years. Originally the private residence of inventor Harlow Russell, the house was purchased by Joslyn and Harvey Oakes in the early 1980s and converted into the seasonal Russell House restaurant and inn in June of 1984. By the spring of 1987, it was a year-round operation and the upscale restaurant was very popular with locals and tourists alike. In 1993, the restaurant closed but Joslyn continued a successful catering business that she ran out of the house. In December 2003, the building was purchased by Boothbay Harbor resident Scott Larson as the headquarters and winter offices of Larson’s companies, True North Events & Catering, the Lawnmere Inn and the Newagen Seaside Inn. Now, almost 14 years later, the Russell House has become home to a year-round restaurant once again. |
